Romney Airs Spanish-Language Ad, Despite Insistence That ‘English Must Be Spoken In America’

Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney has released a new Spanish-language campaign ad in Florida entitled Mi Padre (My Father), featuring Romney’s son, Craig. Craig encourages voters to “get to know my father, Mitt Romney.” Romney himself then chimes in with: Soy Mitt Romney y apruebo este mensaje (I’m Mitt Romney and I approved this message). Watch it:

It’s interesting that Romney is so interested in reaching out to Latino voters in Spanish. In the past, he has been stridently English-only:

English needs to be the language that is spoken in America. We cannot be a bilingual nation like Canada.” [3/07]

“You strengthen the American people by securing our borders and by insisting that the children who come legally to this land are taught in English.” [3/2/07]

In September, the Spanish-language television network Univision had to cancel a GOP presidential debate when only Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) agreed to attend.

But with the important Florida presidential primary — and its large number of Latino voters — approaching, the candidates are going all-out to pander for votes. Earlier this month, Giuliani also released a campaign ad en español on at least three Spanish-language television stations in Miami, despite his vocal support for English-only policies.

  8. JT says:

From Bob Edwards’s XM satellite radio show:

Presidential candidate Edwards “was talking to someone named Tom Miller, who has been to Cuba as a journalist. Miller was describing a visit where he was just sitting on a park bench talking to someone when a policeman came by and asked for their papers. After going to his police car and checking something, Miller was arrested and taken to some government building where he was questioned for a couple of hours. They asked if he had been handing out copies of a 1948 declaration on human rights. Apparently someone matching Miller’s description had been handing them out.

Miller said “I wasn’t mistreated per se, but it wasn’t a happy experience.” And Edwards says (may not be exact quote) “At least you were treated better than people over in Guantanamo.”

Does Edwards really mean to suggest that one ought to treat terrorists captured on the battlefield the same way as people sitting on a park bench, minding their own business–or for that matter than people who actually were doing what Miller was “suspected” of, namely handing out copies of human-rights literature.

In an age of heightened sensitivity over slurs involving race, religion, sexual orientation and so forth, why is anti-American bigotry considered socially acceptable?

    Mitt Romney a Mexican-American?

188pxromney1 Marisa Treviño on the Huffington Post has an interesting piece about Mitt Romney’s criticism of so-called sanctuary cities. She sees it as inconsistent with his family history:

“It seems that Governor Bill Richardson isn’t the only presidential candidate with a Mexican-born parent. Republican candidate, Mitt Romney, can technically claim Latino heritage as well. His father, George Romney, was born in Colonia Dublán, Galeana, in the Mexican state of Chihuahua. . . . The elder Romney was born in a Mormon colony on Mexican soil that his parents had fled to, for lack of a better word — sanctuary. That’s why, it’s rather ironic that Mitt, being the son of a man whose family fled to Mexico for sanctuary reasons, would authorize a plan to slash funding for American cities that declare themselves to be immigration sanctuary cities.”

    LOL

Romney’s grandfather (perhaps great grandfather) fled to Mexico to escape persecution in Utah for being a polygamist.

    LOL

  14. VerbalKint says:

Good point, Frosty Cupcake: since JT’s comment as a whole is a pile of stinking manure, we have every reason to doubt its attribution of this quote to Edwards, and every reason to demand proof.

One thing you have to keep in mind, JT, 86% of the detainees at Gitmo weren’t captured by US troops, and the majority of them don’t come from Iraq or Afghanistan.

On a side note, that story reminds me of a personal experience of my own. In 2004, when I first came home from Iraq, I had tremendous trouble sleeping. I would go out for long walks at night, just to clear my head. Just walking down the street in my own neighborhood, minding my own business. I was stopped three different times by local police, and threatened with being arrested once.

Because “English only” are code words from the mouths of Republicans pandering to their xenophobic base. Also, the attempt to make English the official language is a closet attempt to outlaw ballots printed in other languages, i.e. it is yet another Republican voter suppression tactic.

The economic incentive for immigrants to learn English is tremendous, and nothing else is needed, particularly not a declaration of English as our official language (we have no such declaration now).

I see nothing wrong with Mitt or Rudy sucking in the Spanish speaking people as they doing nothing different then Senator Obama who thinks because of the color of his skin he has the black vote. As Karl Rove passed Religion and God who wanted George to be President and it worked. The people of Michigan believed Romney’s lie that would bring back the car industry he now knows you can tell Americans anything and they’ll believe it. At lease the World is seeing just how Americans just follow without thinking it just makes it easier for another country to take over as the Saudis are doing. It is good to see the Spanish immigrants are buying up homes as millions of Americans go in to foreclosure now who’s smart and who’s dumb. Senator Obama who only knows what he has read and he did benefit from the Civil Rights movement is talking the Clinton’s who lived and worked during that struggle he knows more. Yes his life was in Hawaii and overseas only to come back to the US and benefit from what Civil Rights Bill. Hillary got to met Dr. King but of course because she’s white that means nothing to the uneducated Americans as the Media does it spin. So Mitt, Rudy and Rev. Huck will do what ever it takes to get a vote and as Karl Rove proved Americans don’t think they follow it just might work. I look forward to the Republicans selling the lies to African Americans with enough money they would follow the lies to. Remember the GOP is funding the terrorist so anything can happen. Now the Saudis are smart to as they are buying up shares of the US banks. When they own the banks your car payment and mortgage payments will soon be going to the US/Saudi banks of America.

Ooooo…I can! The likes of Romney wouldn’t have to look like an ass by demanding Mexicans speak English only to campaign to them in their native language.

  46. VerbalKint says:

By the way, I travel a lot to Europe and am embarrassed that I do not speak any language except for English and a little bit of Spanish. I attribute this to a terrible gap in our educational system (and some laziness on my part). My European colleagues are all fluent in English, and many are fluent in three languages. Americans should consider themselves damn lucky that other nations teach English so well in their schools. Because of this, it is very easy to travel and conduct business throughout much of the world knowing only English. I think we are better off as a multilingual society than a monolingual one. But a key element of the conservative/right wing authoritarian mentality is fear of anything unfamiliar.

In the Netherlands, they understand that they aren’t the center of the entire universe. When I was in Amsterdam, it was rare to find somebody who couldn’t speak English with me. Only in the United States do we believe that if the rest of the world wants to talk to us, they should do it in our language — making us even more arrogant than the French.

Foreign language study is mandatory in many European countries, starting at an early age. Here, it’s rarely mandatory, and even as elective courses generally aren’t available until advanced grades. I studied both German and Swedish, but not long enough to become anything close to fluent, and in this country, I didn’t have enough opportunity to practice either of them sufficiently to become proficient (looking back, I realize I should have studied Spanish!).

Several countries have more than one official language (Canada, Switzerland, and Belgium come to mind). In these countries, signage and other written materials are usually in more than one language, and many citizens learn to speak at least some of a second language more easily as a result.

  58. VerbalKint says:

#65 Also, SM, your comment is truly bizarre and illogical. How would declaring English the official language help with the road signs? How would it help with ESL students? It’s just a declaration. It doesn’t do anything to address either of the issues you raise.

  59. dbadass says:

Most of my Spanish speaking students have had little difficulty being successful in class. They usually are bilingual or become so very quickly. Like my Asian students they also come from families which respect the educational process far more than their waspy classmates and their families. 60. Lefty Patriot says:

All of our signs on interstates , state highways, and city roadways are in English. This causes dangerous driving conditions on our roadways when licensed and unlicensed use them. A huge safety hazard. Should we now spend billions of dollars to add signs in Spanish as well. Theres two, and there are many more.

    Comment by Southern Man — January 21, 2008 @ 5:15 pm

I knew it would come down to money; there’s enough money to slaughter Iraqi children in their beds, but not enough for English-Spanish textbooks and signs.

See why I question your thought processes, SM? Because they don’t have any moral center. This argument exposes you as valuing money more than people. it is a bad way to live on a planet full of people. People were here long before money, and if money disappeared tomorrow, people would figure out how to do without it. the right wing is obsessed with money and stuff. Why?

This country was for 200 years the culture of immigrants. You have it entirely backwards. Who are the “we” you refer to? The Italians and Spanish and Vikings that “discovered” this land? The Native Americans who were slaughtered by the millions? The English settlers who had been tossed out on their asses and wound up here because they were losers? Who do you refer to? yeah, that’s why they waited for George Bush before they pulled out all the stops. the dems took on the terrorists, and won, more than once. The republicans failed us, co pletely. The problem with Cheney is most certainly that he is the biggest terrorist of all, with full dossiers on every person in government, and the lack of soul and patriotism to use and abuse any private information he has.

Language cannot be allowed to remain a barrier to success in this country.

All who wish to be citizens of the United States must learn english.

If learning English is what it takes to be successful in this country, people will learn English without you having to cram it down their throats. If the English-speaking portion of the population continues to offer the best options for immigrants, they will learn English; if not, then perhaps the English-speaking portion of the population needs to hand over the reins.

Incidentally, there is nothing in the Constitution to support your demands and yet we’ve managed to survive all these years as a nation. Why do you suppose that is?

Well, to nobody’s surprise, you’re wrong on everything here. Romney isn’t ever going to be president, he’s a crazy cultist without a clue. And many, many countries have been around much longer than the USA with several languages being the accepted norm. English will never be the official language, especially with a nitwit like George Bush slaughtering the language with the same gusto that he slaughters Iraqi children with. language is obviously no barrier to success in this country. And, nobody who wishes to become a citizen has to learn English in any more than a remedial, limited way, after which they can forget it, and go about the business of running for office in the GOP, where money does all the talking. Complete strikeout, bigfoot. you’re still the leading moron on this blog.

Bigfoot is a shallow reader, which shouldn’t be surprising. His report on Romney is true as far as it goes, but the report offers more insight than “Romney leading”.

Among those who are “certain” how they will vote, Romney is the pick for 25%, Giuliani 24%, and McCain 17%.

Giuliani and Huckabee have the most solid support at this time. Sixty-seven percent (67%) of Giuliani’s supporters are “certain” they will vote for him along with 65% of those who favor Huckabee. For Romney, just 55% are that certain. For McCain, just 48% are that certain. In fact, 22% of McCain’s supporters still say there’s a good chance they could change their mind.

If Romney carries Florida, he undoubtedly knocks out Guiliani but that’s hardly going to make him the nominee.

That’s the same reason they attack those who rationally point out the flaws in our government. They can’t understand so they get scared. And people hate what they fear.

Sad huh? That so many go through life in perpetual fear that their ignorance will be exposed or (gasp!) challenged.

BTW, if one adheres to the “official language” meme; shouldn’t we require U.S. military personnel to learn the language of the country where they are deployed? Heck, following their “logic” U.S. soldiers shouldn’t be allowed to enter a foreign country until they achieve a working knowledge of their “official language”.

State Department’s Marc Grossman in deep shit over outing Brewster Jennings and selling nuclear secrets to Turkey And Israel. FBI in massive coverup mode:

    http://www.bradblog.com/?p=5582

    http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/article3216737.ece

The Times’ article refers to an FBI case number (203A-WF-210023) referenced in an anonymous letter sent to The Liberty Coalition, a DC-based transpartisan civil and human rights watchdog organization. A subsequent Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request, asking for information referring to that case number, resulted in a denial from the FBI that such a case exists.

The letter describes, among other things, allegations that Grossman had warned officials at the Turkish embassy in DC of the existence of a CIA counter-proliferation operation using a “CIA cover company” by the name of “Brewster Jennings.” That company was a front used by covert CIA operative Valerie Plame Wilson, who was later outed by White House officials in the now-infamous CIA Leak case.

    So?

  168. plunger says:

HELLO? TP? A story on this is CRITICAL! THE FBI DESTROYED THE ENTIRE FILE PERTAINING TO A MASSIVE INVESTIGATION OF THE SALE OF NUCLEAR SECRETS

Luke Ryland, assuredly the world’s foremost expert on the Edmonds case, writes tonight, on the FBI denial that any documents exist in reference to the specifically named case number:
The FBI’s comments demonstrate conclusively that either:
    a) They are lying, or
    b) They have destroyed the evidence of this multi-year investigation concerning the corruption of high-level US officials, the nuclear black market, money laundering and narcotics trafficking.

“It’s ironic,” Edmonds told us, “here is the FBI and DoJ in charge of investigating the CIA Torture Tape case and the missing White House emails. So who is going to investigate the FBI and DoJ if they have destroyed evidence, if that’s what they’ve done, because it looks like that’s what they have done.”

Without naming Grossman — as they also failed to do in their previous report two weeks ago — the Times reports on some of the letter’s specific allegations…
It claims the government official warned a Turkish member of the network that they should not deal with a company called Brewster Jennings because it was a CIA front company investigating the nuclear black market. The official’s warning came two years before Brewster Jennings was publicly outed when one of its staff, Valerie Plame, was revealed to be a CIA agent in a case that became a cause célèbre in the US.

The letter also makes reference to wiretaps of Turkish “targets” talking to [Pakistan's] ISI intelligence agents at the Pakistani embassy in Washington and recordings of “operatives” at the [American Turkish Council].

“We are all familiar with the cliche that ‘the cover-up is worse than the crime,’ but that is often nonsense,” Ryland writes tonight. “Just as in the CIA tape destruction case, here we have rational people making ‘rational’ decisions, not in the heat of the moment, to commit felonies by destroying evidence of treason amongst other crimes. The original crimes are much worse than the cover-up, and the guilty parties know it, that’s why they decided to destroy and cover up all of the evidence.”

He concludes by adding, “We have the crimes, we have the cover-ups, where are the consequence

For the second time in two weeks, the entire U.S. press has let itself be scooped by Rupert Murdoch’s London Sunday Times on a dynamite story of criminal activities by corrupt U.S. officials promoting nuclear proliferation. But there is a worse journalistic sin than being scooped, and that is participating in a cover-up of information that demands urgent attention from the public, the U.S. Congress and the courts. For the last two weeks — one could say, for years — the major American media have been guilty of ignoring entirely the allegations of the courageous and highly credible source Sibel Edmonds, quoted in the London Times on January 6, 2008 in a front-page story that was front-page news in much of the rest of the world but was not reported in a single American newspaper or network.

    UK Times: Official Documents
Prove FBI Lied to Protect US Official

The UK’s Sunday Times has another explosive article out tonight.
    http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/article3216737.ece

THE FBI has been accused of covering up a key case file
detailing evidence against corrupt government officials
and their dealings with a network stealing nuclear secrets.

The Times has obtained official documents which prove
that the FBI is lying about the existence of a counterintelligence
operation targeting high-level US officials and Turkish operatives.

The FBI’s comments demonstrate conclusively that either:
    a) They are lying, or
    b) They have destroyed the evidence of this multi-year investigation
concerning the corruption of high-level US officials,
    the nuclear black market,
    money laundering and
    narcotics trafficking.

    ****
The revelations in the Times are also the first known incident
where official FBI documents have been leaked to the press
    confirming the FBI’s counterintelligence operations
targeting Turkish operatives in US. According to the Times,
these operations have been taking place since 1996.

    Destruction of Evidence?

The Times has obtained an official FBI document which confirms
the existence of the Turkish counter-intelligence operation,
including the official Case Number of the operation.
This case number, 203A-WF-210023, has been very tightly held
because it directly ties the Turkish operation to specific
documents and wiretaps which can then be used as evidence.

The FBI has, till recently, been very careful not to respond
to any requests that might disclose, confirm or deny
any information in this matter, however:

…the FBI responded to a freedom of information request for a file
of exactly the same number by claiming that it did not exist.
But The Sunday Times has obtained a document signed
by an FBI official showing the existence of the file.

With the FBI claiming that these documents don’t exist,
we must conclude either that they are demonstrably lying,
or that they have destroyed all the evidence.

Unfortunately for the FBI, we are aware of at least two other cases
where this operation was referenced, and those references
were documented outside the FBI. The first case was that of
former FBI translator Sibel Edmonds; her case was reported
by the Justice Department’s Inspector General,
as well as the Senate Judiciary Committee,
and the second case was that of former FBI Special Agent
Gilbert Graham, whose cases was also documented
in Congress and by the Inspector General.

If the FBI is telling the truth
that these documents do not (currently) exist,
then the FBI must have destroyed them.

    CHENEY DID IT.

PNAC members became deeply entrenched in many powerful and strategic positions once George Bush was installed as President. Clearly, the plan could now become a reality. But, how?

Here’s how: The PNAC plan openly called for a “transformation” of the U.S. military into an imperialistic force of global domination. That was more easily said than done. The American people would have to go along with the idea, and that was a problem, but not an insurmountable one. Read the next line very, very carefully:

“The process of transformation,” the plan said, “is likely to be a long one, absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event–like a new Pearl Harbor.”

Let that sink in: like a new Pearl Harbor…like a new Pearl Harbor….like 9/11. Is there any question that 9/11 constituted a catastrophic and catalyzing event very similar to Pearl Harbor? Is there any question that the PNAC plan for war against Iraq became feasible only because of 9/11? Is there any question at all that PNAC got its new Pearl Harbor exactly at the right moment in history?

They effectively pulled off a coup d’Etat, by passing Congressional scrutiny, installing the military industrial fascist government they have today. Allied with the globalist elite they are destroying America and the Constitution.

    ROLL THEM BACK!

While things were heating up around Iraq, Kuwait theft of Iraq oil, and leading up to Desert Shield, then Desert Storm, the GHWB Administration implemented another “shield” in the form of Operation Steppe Shield. It was targeted at Kazakhstan and was named for the vast oil and gas reserves in the Kazakh Steppe region of Kazakhstan….That is where Dick Cheney got himself appointed to the Kazakhstan Oil Advisory Board and later…the book titled The Grand Chessboard: American Primacy and Its Geostrategic Imperatives by Zbigniew Brzezinski came out in 1997…when the 20 Year War Plan was [first] conceived and targeted…the Caspian Basin, and the CIA renditions started.”

    Comment by Xisithrus — January 21, 2008 @ 8:36 pm

No, that is why Native Americans have dark skin.

Black people are supposedly black because they are the decedents of Cain.

“Had I anything to do with the negro, I would confine them by strict law to their own species, and put them on a national equalization.” History of the Church, Volume 5, pages 218-219 — Joseph Smith, first Prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of latter Day Saints.

Joseph Fielding Smith: Tenth Prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of latter Day Saints:
“Ham, through Egyptus, continued the curse which was placed upon the seed of Cain. Because of that curse this dark race was separated and isolated from all the rest of Adam’s posterity before the flood, and since that time the same condition has continued, and they have been ‘despised’ among all people.’ This doctrine did not originate with President Brigham Young but was taught by the Prophet Joseph Smith….we all know it is due to his teachings that the negro today is barred from the Priesthood.” The Way to Perfection, pages 110-111

But hey, what do I know, I’m just a rebellious Lamanite.

How high up the chain of the Church do they go?

There was once a Native American on the Council of Fifty, but he resigned because of the bigotry he saw still within the Church, that was in the 80s when he quit.

Like too many churches, they prey on those who accept what they are told and look no further.

Do you really think that if the trolls started trying to find our information, they’d stop at posting general items?

I’m off to bed. Take it easy, guys.

Oooh, what a tough guys, you’re really scaring us now. How was he slandered exactly. Did we accuse him of selling tainted meat? You trying to understand the law is even funnier than you trying to understand politics.

  301. Sabyen91 says:

“Maybe I’ll give him a call myself and point out were he’s being slandered here on TP…that might be an interesting turn of events, eh?”

You cannot be slandered on a website, retard…oops, I may have libeled you!!!! Or not.

  302. Sabyen91 says:

I didn’t think so, RHF, until I heard Bigfoot expounding on slander.

  303. Stupid Git says:

Anyone know what the punishment would be for not speaking English once it’s declared our only language? Would speaking arabic land you in Guantanemo? Would speaking Pig-Latin be a misdemeanor? Just curious how these racists – I mean Republicans – plan on enforcing their hatred – I mean American† Prideâ„¢.

  304. Stupid Git says:

    You’d better check your “facts”.

    Comment by O. Bigfoot — January 22, 2008 @ 1:25 am

I’d love to hear an attorney bring up a case of slander against “Bigfoot.” That’d be priceless!

  305. Sabyen91 says:

Dipshit, it would be libel. And you would have to prove the statement to be untrue. And you would have to prove it hurt your reputation. And since you and your alter-ego, Kevin are anonymous you can’t prove individual damage. And if you own a blog you could be considered a public entity…then you would have to prove malice…in other words you would have to prove it hurt your ablility to make a living. So, moron, I am not to scared.

The court will now begin proceedings int he case of “Bigfoot V. Republicans Hate Facts.” Cue laughter from the jury and snickers from the bench followed by headlines the next day of “Bigfoot Spotted In Courtroom.”

  308. Shayne says:

Biggoof listens to the likes of Limbaugh and O’Reilly tell bald faced lies about people in the public eye every day and then he thinks we’re going to be sued for slander or libel. You don’t even have any idea how dumb you are to you Bigtoot?

  309. Stupid Git says:

“Mr. Republican’s Hate Facts, do you swear upon the Bible to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth so help you God.”

RHF: “Well, in our rising Theocratic nation I often find myself swearing because of the Bible and God doesn’t seem to be helping much.”

  310. Sabyen91 says:

Oh, I forgot to mention, you would have to prove you had a good reputation in the first place.

Yeah, those damn activist judges are really destroying the the fabric of society and turning us away from the guiding word of the Bible by making that stuff illegal. How dare they go against the word of God!

  317. Keith says:

Has Romney ever been sincere once during this campaign? I don’t think so. If you want fewer illegal aliens, prosecute the businessmen who hire them. If they cannot get a job they will stop coming. Very simple. Clinton did this a little. Reagan, GHWB, and GWB virtually none. Republicans want wages to be low. Illegal immigration makes wages low for everyone. This is why Caesar Chavez was opposed to illegal immigration in 1968.

  318. Shayne says:

You’ve said previously that you personally didn’t have any children of your own. So were you lying then or are you lying now. And since you lie about this why should we believe anything you say.

  319. Shayne says:

Now your going to split hairs on whether your trailer is a motor home or a trailer. Like we really care. As somebody said, you can take the trash out of the trailer …

And you think we’re the ones making idiots out of ourselves. How pathetic.

  320. Shayne says:

Sorry Shayne…you need to lay off the pipe. I’ve never said that I didn’t have any kids. You must have been dreaming about me again….

    Comment by O. Bigfoot — January 22, 2008 @ 2:12 am

Gee I believe you’re guilty of libel. I’ll have to get my attorney on it in the morning.

  322. Shayne says:

Reading comprehension issues? As I said in my previous post, do you think this is about what kind of home you live in? No it isn’t. It’s the fact that you act like trailer trash, get it. Do I need to draw you a diagram or do you understand that now. I writing as simply as I can so you can comprehend that we think you are not that bright and that nothing you say to us is going to make one bit of difference. If you want to waste your time here do so. We’ll just treat you with the disdain we do all neocrooks.

  323. Shayne says:

And if you had read my earlier posts you would have seen where I said I didn’t believe you owned that butcher that you just delivered meat out of your truck. yes, keep them ignorant and afraid, like you are, and teach them to hate, like you do. then send them off to war for oil, in your place. You’re the best argument there is against religious education, bigfoot; your ignorance and bigotry are legendary, and 8your cowardice and refusal to fight for your country are the hallmarks of cultist cowards. Muslim extremists have far more courage and faith than you will ever have. it’s the only real difference between them and your kind of hateful coward. But you both thrive on ignorance.and you both hate progress and civiliation, preferring to dwell in the fear those different from you.

Try handing out copies of the Communist Manifesto or the Coran in front of the White House and see what happens. Or stay half an hour with a turban there. See how quickly comes a cop asking what are you doing, and asking firmly to come with him.

  332. Bluestocking says:

He is just trying to reach, and get his message across to a segment of our population that does not speak english. He still believes in an english spoken American society. A lot of the people who don’t speak english now, will eventually learn, so talk to them now. I think your scared of Romney. Why all the pickiness? — Southern Man

    **************************************

Gee…maybe because it’s blatantly hypocritical, self-serving, and suggests that he’s not willing to stand by his own principles?!?

I’m not saying that Democrats are never hypocritical and self-serving, because they are — hello, welcome to politics!! — but that doesn’t mean that I can’t call it when I see it or have no right to criticize it. Romney’s approval of a bilingual campaign ads when he himself has gone on the record as an opponent of a bilingual society effectively says “I’ll cater to Spanish speakers just long enough to get them to vote for me — but not once I’m in the White House.” Is he the only politician to do such a thing? No, of course not…but that doesn’t mean that it’s somehow OK just because everyone does it. Part of this has to do with principles. Someone who truly believes that something is important or right continues to defend that position even when it’s inconvenient. Someone who readily sacrifices what they believe for the sake of expediency only proves that they have no real principles, which basically means that the only thing they really believe in is self-interest. It might not be so bad if this were the only issue on which Romney has flip-flopped…but it’s not.

As much as I disliked Tancredo, I’ll give him this much…he likewise is an opponent of a bilingual society, but at least he was prepared to stand up for his principles by refusing to participate in a bilingual debate. Did it cost him? You tell me…all I know for certain is that he’s withdrawn from the race, but it’s not impossible that a lack of success in gaining the Latino vote may have played at least some role in that decision.

  333. Lefty Patriot says:

Still having that reading comprehension problem, bert? get your mother to read this to you: you’re irrelevant.

  334. Lefty Patriot says:

What’s so hard to understand about that, bert? Take your head out of your rectum for a change.

  335. Lefty Patriot says:

What if we do get a war-hungry hypocrite like Romney in office? Would Americans opt to move to Canada? I heard Canada was ramping up its immigration centers in expectation of another wave of “Blue Staters” in the event of a Republican victory: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/index.asp
In the independent film “Blue State,” the protagonist does exactly that. He decides to flee the United States after another republican victory in 2004, due to strong liberal ideals: http://www.bluestate.com

Wow, there were a lot of bored TP regulars here yesterday playing with trolls. Why do you do that? Do you think you are ever going to penetrate the brick skulls of SM and BigFootInMouth?

Oh well, TP can brag that they had a thread that garnered 400+ responses. No matter that a majority of them were trolls and people playing Whack a Troll.

I firmly believe that TP is doing nothing about the troll problem here so that they can brag about their numbers. I would like to financially support TP but won’t do it until they get the troll problem under control.
